“Go fly once around the field by yourself”, said my instructor.
My heart was pounding, the adrenaline was pumping so hard, that my right leg began to shake. I lined up on the runway, advanced the throttle to full power, and began the takeoff roll. AIRSPEED – ALIVE, ENGINE TEMPS & PRESSURES – IN THE GREEN. At take-off safety speed, I eased back on the control column, I was airborne. There was no going back now, it was completely up to me to get the aeroplane back on the ground. I flew around the field and landed.
It was Friday, April 25 1997, one of the happiest days of my life. The following Monday, I went to school. I was 17.
